we thought

we were glad when you left
taking your grumble in our life away.
we no longer intercepted the backlash for your selfish ways.

we were happy after you left
realizing that you were such the instigator.
spitting and slapping the face of our opposition
and we watched, knowing it would all come back to us.

we felt safe after you left.
able to live like we were real,
not timid little things scared to step out in the light

we didn't fear everything, because the angry beast had finally
been appeased. the thorn in his side gone forever.

it was quiet for a while
after you left, and our world didn't feel
like it was on the verge of break all the time.

we always figured that once you left things would be
better, quieter, like the other family you left us for.
but, we found out that we were not like them.
they didn't have a silent beast that lived amongst them.

we wondered once you left
if maybe keeping you would have been better
and killing him would have been best.
